How to Remove a Jacket from a Photo

Jackets are the most common clothing removal request, and also the easiest to get right: they sit on top of everything else, with a clear edge at the shoulders and the hem.

Method 1 — AI clothes remover (fastest)

Upload the photo, describe the jacket and its colour, and state what should remain. Seconds per image, no software to learn. Best for batches and for anyone who does not open Photoshop.

Method 2 — Manual masking (most control)

Select the jacket, mask it out, then rebuild the garment underneath with clone and generative fill. Accurate but slow — expect 20 to 40 minutes for a clean result on a difficult shot.

Method 3 — Content-aware fill (quick fix, weak result)

Good for a jacket over a plain top where the gap can simply be filled. It breaks down as soon as there is a pattern, a collar or a shadow that must be rebuilt.

Method 4 — Reshoot (expensive, perfect)

Still the right answer for hero campaign imagery where nothing can be approximated. For everything else — listings, lookbooks, internal previews — an AI edit is a fraction of the cost.

Getting a clean result

Use a photo where the jacket edge is visible on both sides. Name the jacket's colour and type. Ask for the face, pose and background to be preserved. Then check the collar, the shoulders and the shadow under the hem — those three spots tell you whether the edit worked.
